Spring Nature Walks

2025 Guided Nature Walks with Josh Fecteau

Laurel Hill Cemetery, 293 Beach St., Saco

Saco Bay Trails' annual Spring Nature Walks, led by local birder & naturalist Josh Fecteau, will return to lovely Laurel Hill Cemetery this May. As always, these events are free and open to the public.

Morning Bird Walks:

Thursdays at 7:00 AM – These walks to the riverside and back will focus on observing birds with our eyes and ears. Be sure to bring a pair of binoculars, if you have them! The walk will last approximately 1.5 hours.

  • Thursday, May 8th

  • Thursday, May 15th

  • Thursday, May 22nd

Afternoon Phenology Walks:

Thursdays at 3:00 PM – These walks will likely cover less ground, and will focus on the changing landscape as spring unfolds. We'll be birding, for sure, but also paying attention to wildflowers, trees, insects, and more. The walk will last approximately 1 hour.

  • Thursday, May 8th

  • Thursday, May 15th

  • Thursday, May 22nd

Location:

We'll park and meet in the lot by the chapel at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 293 Beach Street, Saco, ME. Laurel Hill's easy-to-walk paths, variety of native and planted trees, and view of the Saco River make it an ideal birding destination.

Beginning birders are welcome! Be sure to bring along binoculars if you have a pair.

The cemetery is home to a variety of native and planted trees and the adjacent Saco River. It is an excellent destination for birders, especially in May when many species of birds are returning or migrating through.

Meet Up Spot

We'll meet at 7:00 AM each Thursday morning in the parking lot next to the chapel at Laurel Hill Cemetery at 293 Beach St, Saco.
