Saco Heath looking a little rough Harry Johnson, our lookout person for the Saco Heath, reports the trail and boardwalk are looking pretty rough, with muddy areas and many rotten boards. While the trail is still passable, he recommends caution for those who traverse it. Read more...
We have moved the Sweetser Link trail up and out of the stream valley. The new trail is much drier. Read more... Just took a lovely walk in the Heath late this morning. The mood of the heath was very serene today, even with a good breeze. And the waves of cottongrass are still a sight. Read more... Cascade Falls The trail isn't open yet, but we're making great strides. We now have a parking lot built and a network of future trails flagged in the area. We're actively seeking grants for trail construction which we hope to begin in 2010. In the meantime, we're working to keep vandalism and litter at bay in the area. We'll be setting up a page on this site to track progress.
During a work party in September, we built two new bridges, repaired a third, mowed and cut back brush to make the trail much more passable. Now there is a clear path from the Flag Pond road kiosk to the field and back. Read more... It's a beautiful time to be out on the Saco Heath It's a beautiful walk, but be careful -- there are still areas where the boardwalk is rotted and there are two trees down. Atlantic Way Trail bridge We've installed a temporary bridge over the washed out culvert. Read more... Sylvan Trail mowed The Sylvan Trail on Flag Pond Road was mowed August 22. The trail is in generally good condition. Read more... Progress on the Saco Heath Boardwalk Read more... Atlantic Way Trail mowed The Atlantic Way trail was mowed July 27. With the exception of the washout over the culvert at the Seaside Avenue end of the path, the trail is in good shape. Hikers and bikers can cross over the culvert on a makeshift bridge, just use care. Heath boardwalk The boardwalk is still in rough shape, but a pile of boards in is place, and I believe there is a TNC work party scheduled for this summer. Read more...
