Progress on the Saco Heath Boardwalk
The trail is in good, passable shape. Maybe 3-4 boards are cracked or broken, but they're not treacherous. Lots of people out too. At least a dozen for the time I was there. The last of the blueberries can still be found on the bushes, and some new white flowers on the heath itself are getting ready to blossom.

TNC has restocked the kiosk with several dozen trail guides. And if anyone wondered why so much boardwalk was laid in the woods, now's the time to see why! In places the water on either side is a foot deep. The ground is truly saturated; the Preserve could do fine with a break in the rain of at least a week or so. On the heath itself there are places where the water table is at or just above the boardwalk. Advice to any walkers for the moment is wear cruddy boots/shoes, and don't wear long pants that you want to keep clean.

The next TNC trail cleanup is set for Sun. Aug. 24, from 10AM to whenever.
